Title:  I, a Light, Have Come into the World

The text is, “ἐγὼ φῶς εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἐλήλυθα, ἵνα πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ μὴ μείνῃ”.

“ἐγὼ”:  first person, personal, singular, nominative pronoun meaning “I”.

“φῶς”:  neuter, singular, nominative noun meaning “a light”.

“εἰς”:  preposition taking the accusative for its object word and meaning “into”.

“τὸν”:  masculine, singular, accusative article meaning “the”.

“κόσμον”:  masculine, singular, accusative noun meaning “world”.

“ἐλήλυθα”:  first person, singular, perfect, active, indicative verb meaning “have come”.

“ἵνα”:  subordinating purposive conjunction meaning “so that”.

“πᾶς”:  masculine, singular, nominative adjective meaning “whoever”.

“ὁ”:  masculine, singular, nominative article meaning “the” but it is not rendered into English here.

“πιστεύων”:  present, active, participial, masculine, singular, nominative verb meaning “believing”.

“εἰς”:  preposition taking the accusative for its object word and meaning “in”.

“ἐμὲ”:  first person, personal, singular, accusative pronoun meaning “me”.

“ἐν”:  preposition taking the dative for its object word and meaning “in”.

“τῇ”:  feminine, singular, dative article meaning “the”.

“σκοτίᾳ”:  feminine, singular, dative noun meaning “darkness”.

“μὴ”:  negative particle meaning “not”.

“μείνῃ”:  third person, singular, aorist, active, subjunctive verb meaning “should not remain”.

The meaning of this verse is,

I, light, have come into the world, so that whoever, believing in me, should not remain in the darkness.”
