Title:  Now One Man was There

The text is, “ἦν δέ τις ἄνθρωπος ἐκεῖ τριάκοντα [καὶ] ὀκτὼ ἔτη ἔχων ἐν τῇ ἀσθενείᾳ αὐτοῦ”.

ἦν -> third person, singular, imperfect, indicative verb -> was

δέ -> coordinating conjunction -> now

τις -> masculine, singular, nominative, indefinite pronoun -> one

ἄνθρωπος -> masculine, singular, nominative noun -> man

ἐκεῖ -> adverb of place -> there

τριάκοντα -> neuter, plural, accusative, cardinal adjective -> thirty

καὶ -> coordinating conjunction -> and

ὀκτὼ -> neuter, plural, accusative, cardinal adjective -> eight

ἔτη -> neuter, plural, accusative noun -> years

ἔχων -> present, active, participial, masculine, singular, nominative verb -> having been

ἐν -> preposition taking the dative for its object word -> in

τῇ -> feminine, singular, dative article -> the

ἀσθενείᾳ -> feminine, singular, dative noun -> sickness, weakness, or infirmity

αὐτοῦ -> third person, personal, masculine, singular, genitive pronoun -> himself

 

The meaning of this verse is,

Now, one man was there, having been in the sickness thirty and eight years himself.”
